Dr Stefan Botes
Dr Stefan Botes was born in the Northern Cape and attended school in the Transvaal. Dr Botes completed undergraduate medical training at the University of Pretoria in 2009 and thereafter completed internship training and community service in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga. At this time, Dr Botes met his wife, who encouraged him to live and work in the beautiful province of the Western Cape. Dr Botes completed his specialist training at Tygerberg, where he completed his Fellowship of the Colleges and Surgeons exam (CMSA) and Master’s Degree through Stellenbosch University. In addition, Dr Botes received certificates in Advanced Trauma and Life Support. He also completed a definitive trauma surgery care (DSTC) course and participated as a guest lecturer for the same course presented in 2022. In 2022 he also completed a postgraduate certificate in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious diseases through the University of Edinburgh.
After Dr Botes qualified in 2019, he relocated to Ireland with his wife to gain experience in a first-world country. While working in Ireland, his expertise in laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery grew exponentially. He spent eighteen months working in a general surgery post and thereafter worked six months at the Cork University Hospital in the academic breast surgery unit. In Ireland, Dr Botes engaged in Ambulatory day surgery and, in addition to this, arranged for space in day hospitals where he performed day surgeries. In 2022, Dr Botes moved back to Cape Town, where he worked in the acute care and trauma surgery unit at Tygerberg Hospital before he went into private practice.
